Feasibility Studies for Hydrogen Fueling of River Boats
Paris, France
Cities & Territorial Development
Project Description
The motorisation of river transport has increasingly gained momentum. In a context where France aims to achieve carbon neutrality of mobility by 2050, the need to develop the motorisation of river transport is becoming a major objective. To allow boats to have access to alternative energies to minimise their environmental impact, a major port complex pledged itself to the H2Ships Interreg project, which aimed at developing the use of hydrogen for boat propulsion.
Our client, a major maritime hub, mandated us to carry out feasibility studies to develop hydrogen refueling facilities, alongwith an engineering and environmental consultancy company.
We analysed the existing regulatory framework, identified obstacles and related proposals, undertook opportunity study and feasibility study for hydrogen fueling on a port scale and evaluated transport and distribution logistics.
The work concerned all stages of the fueling chain (production, transport, storage, distribution), the types of boats, the state of hydrogen (liquid, compressed, metallic, LOHC – Liquid Organic Hydrogen Carrier), among others.
