Context and challenges


For several years now, we have been able to observe that the average life expectancy is closely linked to better quality drinking water and sanitation systems. Many governments in emerging countries have made these sectors a central priority.

Assystem Stup plays a major role in developing water and sanitation sectors for the benefit of local populations and environment, for example in India where water resources are even driven by a national policy.

Surface and groundwater are a source of supply for agricultural consumers who benefit from fertile land. They are also central to the needs of wildlife and have a major impact on populations and biodiversity of ecosystems. In addition, water networks also allow industrial and economic development for territories using rivers to produce energy, transport merchandise, transform waste, or develop tourism. Finally, floodplains represent relatively flat land that favors the development of housing, commerce, roads, or railroads. The development of the water sector and its environment thus goes along with economic, environmental and social benefits for regions and their populations.
