The design consultancy services for the underground sections of Mumbai Metro Line 3, undertaken by Assystem in India, is a transformative infrastructure project set to enhance urban mobility and quality of life in Mumbai. Also known as the Colaba-Bandra-Seepz line or the Aqua Line, this 33.5 km metro corridor includes 10 stations, nine of which are underground.
The first phase, a 12.44 km stretch from Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) to Aarey, was inaugurated by our honorable Prime Minister, Mr Narendra Modi on October 5, 2024, and opened to the public on October 7, 2024. The line is expected to be fully operational by June 2025, operated by the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRCL).
Key Benefits of Mumbai Metro Line 3
- Reduced road traffic by 35%, taking approximately 700,000 vehicles off Mumbai’s roads. This reduction will lower carbon emissions and improve air quality in Mumbai, one of India’s most polluted cities.
- Connecting southern and western suburbs, the metro line provides faster, direct access between major hubs. For example, travel time from Cuffe Parade to the airport will be halved, making it convenient for commuters and travelers alike.
- Aims to stimulate redevelopment projects and make the area more appealing to investors and homebuyers.
- The project is expected to contribute to the local economy by creating jobs and boosting the real estate market.
Yogesh Waingankar, Structures Head at Assystem in India, remarked, “Once Metro 3 is fully operational, it will enhance accessibility for residents commuting between Dadar in south-central Mumbai and the northern suburbs, significantly benefiting daily commuters.”
Assystem in India is honored to contribute to this landmark project, helping reshape Mumbai’s urban landscape for a sustainable and efficient future.
