Assystem is playing a pivotal role as the Design and Engineering Consultant in the Amaala Water Development Project situated along the Red Sea in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia underscoring our commitment to pioneering engineering solutions that foster environmental sustainability and innovation.
Assystem has been entrusted with the comprehensive design and engineering of all infrastructure components including the construction of a 37 million liters per day (MLD) Seawater Reverse Osmosis Plant, a cornerstone of the project’s sustainable water supply system. Additionally, Assystem is overseeing the development of a 6 MLD Sewage Treatment Plant, marine works such as intake and outfall systems, tank farms, and extensive networks for potable water, wastewater, and treated sewage effluent.
The objective of the Amaala project is to help KSA achieve its net-zero ambitions while aiming to deliver a 30% net conservation benefit to local ecosystems by 2040. Our teams at Assystem are aligned with this vision and are implementing designs that enhance biologically diverse habitats, including mangroves, seagrass, corals, and terrestrial vegetation. These efforts not only foster biodiversity but also contribute significantly to carbon sequestration, showcasing Assystem’s ability to integrate ecological considerations into its engineering solutions.
Additionally, Assystem is leading the design of an eco-friendly utility infrastructure powered entirely by solar energy. This innovative approach is anticipated to save nearly half a million tons of CO2 emissions annually, significantly reducing the project’s carbon footprint.
Umashankar N, Deputy General Manager of the Water Department said, “Assystem’s involvement in the Amaala project is a testament to its unparalleled expertise in delivering sophisticated engineering projects that prioritize sustainability. The company’s meticulous planning and execution of the infrastructure components necessary for Amaala’s development highlight its capacity to blend technical excellence with environmental stewardship. By spearheading the design and engineering efforts, Assystem is ensuring that the Amaala project not only meets but exceeds its sustainability goals.”
